Hawthorndene and Hunters Way, Kirkmuirhill

A series of images of Hawthorndene and the surrounding area in Kirkmuirhill, South Lanarkshire. Hawthorndene is one of the entrance roads to a housing scheme built in the early 70s, originally with the purpose of housing prison officers for Dungavel Prison, near Strathaven. Most of the houses were eventually bought by the local council.

The design of the scheme is interesting as there is obviously an intent to separate houses from the road and cars. The houses are generally built in terraces or around squares; general parking is available in Hawthorndene and Hunter's Way. These photos were taken on the 2nd December, 2017 unless indicated otherwise.
