Old Carlisle Road, Lesmahagow

This road was formerly part of the main road between Glasgow and Carlisle and led to a toll bridge built by Thomas Telford. When this proved inadequate, Milton Bridge was built and the traffic by-passed this section leaving it with a function of providing access to the A74 from the village. Now the old A74 is by-passed by the M74 motorway.
